Cleaning, sculpted shape embraces the purity of Scandinavian design and its echoes dramatic wraparound window graphic heritage of Saab aircraft. With a design inspired by the award-winning Saab Aero X concept car and a muscle, the lowered position, the new Saab 9-5 announces the introduction of a bold, expressive design language.
The table of high-tech features on offer includes: an information display aircraft-inspired Head (HUD), adaptive headlights (Bi-Xenon Smart Beam), adaptive cruise control, adaptive chassis with Saab DriveSense time damping real control zone dual climate control keyless, entry and exit of the parking assistance with dynamic and eLSD Saab XWD, the industry leader in all four wheels.
The powertrain of all turbo line-up is the largest ever offered by Saab, the extension of Saab's strategy engine displacement, focusing on responsible performance by developing high-efficiency four-cylinder turbo. There is a choice of three fuels - gasoline, diesel and bioethanol E85 - and the diesel engine, the new 5.9 offers CO2 emissions as low as 139 g / km.
Scandinavian Design
"Provisional design that does not ignore, if it comes from," sums up the appearance of new Saab 9-5. "We provide fresh, very modern, some classic signs of brand design," says Simon Padian, Saab Design Chief of the brand. "There are themes found in our recent concept cars such as the Aero X, which is inspired by Scandinavian design and aeronautical origins of the brand."
In front of the new Saab 9-5 is defined by a grid lined with deep curved block of ice fog. The emissions presented in the whole "immersive" mono graphic: masked the windscreen and a half columns to the signing of the Saab car cockpit displays. This interaction between the windshield and the roof size resemble the classic Saab 900 models.
From the front, a new Saab 9-5 to cut the strong and powerful stance. "Organic Sculpture" and the low-slung body combines a clean, uncluttered lines of the natural, curved shapes. Brand design cues appear on the 'hockey stick' belt-line strong rear C-pillars and soft surface of the body frame. Very Saab logo embossed in the center of the grid is characterized by a more assertive, confident design language.
Dynamic character of the car is underlined by a falling roof line, culminating in the sweeping rear pillars that support a screen slightly recessed in the rear. The front wings, which are subtly flared to fall into the wheels transmit the latent energy. Below this bridge gently to the rear, a full-width blocks of ice bar taillights wrap for her signature lighting.
The new 9-5 overall proportions stretch the traditional three-volume sedan silhouette, while avoiding the cliché of a four-door fastback coupe appearance.
Driver-focused cockpit
Inside the spacious cabin, to define simple forms of architecture and design echoes the purity of the outside. Compared to its predecessor, legs and shoulder width is increased front and rear, with rear legroom leader. Infotainment choices include a high-end Harman Kardon 5.1-channel surround sound system and an 8-inch color touch screen navigation system with hard drive storage of map data and 10GB for music files MP3. A large center console offers storage and connections to multiple portable devices via USB and 3.5 mm auxiliary ports on the side of a 12V power outlet.
Rear passengers can even access their own audio files or watch a DVD. The unit for rear seat entertainment in the back of the center console seat audio controls and folding screens are installed behind the front seats. Wireless headphones are designed to listen and watch.
On the road
A wide range of chassis technology focuses on providing a sports experience, rewarding driving that belies the size of 9-5. Saab XWD, the system of industry-leading all-wheel drive is available in the Saab 9-3, is offered at launch with the 2.0-liter turbo 2.8V6 turbo engine with additional applications due in the future. Available across the range are: adaptive chassis control with driver settings selected by Saab DriveSense, Bi-Xenon adaptive headlights Smart Beam and Adaptive Cruise Control. Under suspension of three different are adjusted according to engine power and all are available with adjustable sports suspension.
Saab has 30 years experience in the supercharging of engines and powertrain turbo full range of the new 9-5 is further developing its strategy of engine displacement. At launch, four-cylinder diesel 160 hp includes 2.0-liter turbo with emissions of just 139g/km CO2 and the 2.0-liter turbo diesel develops 220 horsepower. A high range turbo 2.8 V6, generating 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, is offered exclusively with Saab XWD.
Shortly after launch, the 1.6-liter, 180 hp turbo diesel will be introduced with the 2.0-liter BioPower engine E85. All have six-speed transmission.
A new era
Saab and equipped defined as high-end competition in the segment of high-end sedans, the new 9-5 is the most technologically advanced car ever produced by the company. Plant will be built in the home of Saab in Trollhättan, where it was designed.
The new Saab 9-5 will have its first public appearance at the 2009 Frankfurt International Fair. Combining striking looks good with the technology of advanced driving is the beginning of a new era for Saab.
Powertrain
The new Saab 9-5 all turboprop line-up brings together expertise from Saab turbo with the state of the art technology of the engine. With gasoline and BioPower (E85 compatible) engine developing over 100 hp per liter, the new Saab 9-5 Sedan Saab advances powertrain strategy of displacement. Efficient turbo engines as small as 1.6 liters to start assembling the engine range for the new Saab premium room. CO2 emissions as low as 139g/km are also available on the Saab 2.0 turbo diesel engine.
Petrol (1.6T, 2.0T and 2.8V6)
All petrol engines are electronically controlled, electronic speed control, direct ignition and four valves per cylinder head to maintain, maintenance-free chain-driven cams. Longevity and reliability, water-cooled turbocharger and air to air intercooler to improve the intake charge density.
To provide low friction and wear characteristics of the pistons, while benefiting from fuel and oil, cylinder walls are laser engraved for a very smooth finish. Valves on the piston skirt oil cooler and full of sodium efficiency measures.
1.6 Turbo
The engine range starts with this powerful four-cylinder engine giving 180 hp/132 kW and 230 Nm of torque to the end of the high 2200 rpm at 5,500 rpm. Includes an "impulse" function, which raises a couple of 266 Nm to a maximum of five seconds in a wide open throttle.
